Nice moment, nice compostions could have used a slightly tighter crop on the right but otherwise nice layering.

Creative composition- nice juxtaposition. Hard to judge this image in a feature category- hoswever as a portrait the depth and energy intrigued us.
GN-General News

The entries in this catagory seemed to lean on the feature side, so this image of Roscoe stood out in the crowd as a great photo for a day-after assignment and made a great story.
2nd: Chris Bergin, The Star Press
gn_ckbm_01
The color in this event photo is striking and instantly grabbed the judges attention. The attention to the exposure and composition made it a good choice for second place.

A nice job at getting a good angle to show the classic thrill of victory and the agony of defeat.
2nd: Joseph C. Garza, Tribune-Star
S_JCGTH_02
Good reaction shot on a crucial play that shows the photographer stayed focused after the action. A tighter crop on the right side to eliminate the umpire and maybe the silver pole would have helped.
3rd: Pete Schreiner, Bedford Times-Ma
S_PWSB_01
The expressions on the players faces make this shot sing. A good job by the photographer to follow the action.
SN-Spot_News
1st: Melanie Maxwell
SN_MRMM_01
This was the only entry in the spot news category that showed any kind of emotion and intensity.
2nd: John Terhune, Journal & Courier
sn_jrtl_03
We would have liked to see more reaction to the roof collapsing but this shot told the story.
3rd: Jeri Reichanadter
SN_JLRI_01
The caption described the scene well but left the judges looking for that same detail in the image. The cross in the background was a nice touch. This category was weak overall.

A good visual story from start to finish with a variety of moments and angles.
2nd: Denny Simmons

This entry shows the photographer wasn’t afraid to get his or her feet wet. A good job catching real moments and a variety of images.

A nice use of light and several striking portraits. The package could have used some tighter editing and consitency on choosing posed vs. candid moments.
