2008 1st Quater Multi-Media Winners

First Place
Sam Riche
Indiana Flooding
Flooding in Northern Indiana forces many to flee their homes.

Judge’s comments: Incredible you-are-there quality, broadcast quality moments and audio, great effort in getting on boats, and in people’s homes. Might have cut some of the water sounds volume a bit. Really nice work.

Second Place
Christopher Smith
Spelling Bee
Keertan Kini of Munster tries for a second win in the Times Regional Spelling Bee

Judges comments: Top quality all the way, but our favorite for thinking ahead and planning of the shoot, the elimination of contestants, then the naming of the winner from a static camera view was fantastic. Great audio quality, very creative thinking from start to finish.

Third Place
Sam Riche
Colts vs Chargers
The Colts lost their playoff game against the Chargers, ending their season

Judges comments: A very unique shooting style lends itself to the hectic game-day atmosphere, tough enough as it is, but then Sam combined his work with staff images and great soundtrack and you have a really neat, creative way to package all of the different elements. Ran a little long here and there, tighter edits would have kept the excitement high for the short attention span of online viewers. Knockout effort for all involved.

Judges: David Kent, Assignments editor; Ron T. Ennis, Chief Photographer; Jill Johnson, Staff Photographer; Paul Moseley, Director of Photography.
