We laughed the moment this came up on the screen. It’s just a great moment of joy mixed with concentration.

Judges Commnets:
A great, colorful photo. This one took some time to get the right moment. Another funny moment of kids being kids.

Judges Commnets:
We loved the tone of the photo – the similar colors and the quiet sense it evokes. It’s also not something you see every day.

Everyone has to shoot graduations, but it’s often difficult to catch such a short and pure moment.

Judges Commnets:
It can be hard to get good access at prisons and this is such a sweet moment shot in difficult circumstances. The caption really helps bring the photo to life.

Judges Commnets:
We saw a lot of flooding photos in this category and this one was our favorite. It stood out because of the strain on the subject’s face. His muddy clothes really made us feel like he was in the thick of things.

Judges Commnets:
A great collection of strong images. The detail shots really brought the package together. We would have gotten rid of a couple images to make it a tighter package, but it was still the best overall.

The variety of images did a nice job of showing the effect of a tornado on a community.

We loved the third image in this package. It’s a good story put together from daily coverage.

Judges Commnets:
This one was the most unusual of the stories. We really liked the authentic feel of some of the images. They looked like movie stills.

Judges Commnets:
We all said “whoa!” when we say this one. Diving can be hard to shoot and this captures all the work and strain that we rarely see in diving photos. The hair is great, too.

Hard hitting action from a softball game. The caption helped clinch it for us when we learned they were both hurt in the play. That makes it a key moment in the game.

A nice, new angle on the classic dugout dejection shot. The color is great and we love the equipment scattered around the dugout
