Judges
Springfield News-Sun photographers Bill Lackey and Barbara Perenic, and Marshall Gorby, Chief Photographer. We were disappointed with the low number of entries in some categories. We also saw photos that were not sharp or overworked (hand of God). Some cutlines left a lot to be desired. The feature multiple category was well represented with a variety of entries.

One of life’s beautiful moments and a clean background to boot! Clean, simple, lovely, and leaves a smile on your face. You can’t beat this photo for first place.

A wonderful “found” situation that any photographer would love to have. A nice contrast to some other flooding photos we saw which were cluttered and chaotic. This photo has a “Cloud 9” feeling to it.

The photographer captured a wonderful moment from an otherwise boring assignment. We appreciated the explanation we got from the caption which made us realize what a gem this was. You can almost “see” the music!

Nice moment. Typical but clean. A tighter crop would have earned this photo a higher placing.

One of the best political moments we have seen. We praise the filled frame, the clean background and the emotion expressed here.

A tight crop and the kids’ expressions make this photo a clear winner. A highlight from what might have been an otherwise ordinary assignment.

Of all the things we have shot at City Hall, this is better than any of them. One lets out a laugh seeing this photo.

To-die-for crowd chaos. Not your average concert coverage! Would have like to have been there and it felt like we were.

Top-notch reflexes on both the player and the photographer for capturing this moment of peak action.

We had to chuckle when we saw this photo. A slightly tighter crop to eliminate background clutter would have helped this photo.

This might be the only photo in this month’s contests that is cropped too tightly. We had to read the caption to figure it out but loved the faces.
