F-Feature 1st Place 50 Points
Photographer: AJ Mast, Independent Photojournalist

Judges Comments:
Never seen anything like this. Stark composition and lots of depth, muted tones and sense of isolation.

Judges Comments:
A nicely captured moment. Could have tightened it up from the left and bottom to really bring the viewer into the subjects’ faces.

Judges Comments:
A nice find with some news pegs to go along with it.

Judges Comments:
Authentic moment with nice body language. Nicely composed. A timeless quality to the picture of inquisitive young people.

Judges Comments:
Nicely composed moment for an interesting story. Easy on the toning, tough. Borderline overworked.

GN-General_News 3rd Place 30 Points
Photographer: Matt Detrich/Indianapolis Star

Judges Comments:
Composition and light elevate this picture, though it is light on content and a moment.

GN-General_News HM Place 10 Points

Judges Comments:
This moment could have been greatly strengthened by cropping vertical to clean up the background and make us focus on this family reunion.

Judges Comments:
The quality of a few wonderful, memorable pictures in this package elevates it above the other winners. Especially the counter seats and the nurses faces. We view this story, though, wondering where are the pictures showing the difficulties and stresses of parenthood x4. The details were probably unnecessary in the edit.

Multiple_Entry 2nd Place 40 Points
Photographer: Matt Detrich/Indianapolis Star

Judges Comments:
Average event coverage of what has become a frequent event in our communities. A few images could have been strengthened with a crop. A few images were a little too literal, or lacking emotion.

Judges Comments:
There were too many average images but it was the strongest of the remaining entries. There was little continuity and we had difficulty grasping the purpose of the event.

Judges Comments:
Clear winner with a great celebratory moment and a contributing foreground, middle-ground and background. Clean, crisp and great light.

Judges Comments:
Rare that you get this moment with two players, both helmets off, and a somewhat contributing background. Works nicely.

Judges Comments:
Damn ref. Such a nice capture brought down by an intruding leg. Happens to all of us. Way to follow the action and get the moment.
