We felt like this one was the cleanest and had the best composition! We like the lines.

Judges Comments:
We chose this because it was the picture with the strongest moment.

F-Feature 3rd Place 30 Points
Photographer: Robert Franklin, South Bend Tribune

Judges Comments:
We thought this was the second strongest moment. We might have awarded it higher if the cars hadn’t been distracting.

It stands out from the crowd. Very interesting.

Judges Comments:
It’s very pretty, but not super newsy.

GN-General_News 3rd Place 30 Points
Photographer: Matt Detrich/IU Health

Judges Comments:
It’s clean (minus the car) and it has a nice leading line.

SA-Sports-Action 1st Place 50 Points
Photographer: Robert Franklin
Image:sa_rtfs_01
Judges Comments:
Nice moment. The photographer got the basketball player’s entire body in the frame. The reactions in the background add to the photo.

SA-Sports-Action 2nd Place 40 Points
Photographer: AJ Mast, Independent Photojournalist
Image:sa_ajmi_02
Judges Comments:
It looks a bit soft, but it’s a great moment. It is a clean frame and draws the eye to the players/ball.

SA-Sports-Action 3rd Place 30 Points
Photographer: Robert Franklin

Judges Comments:
It’s simple but different. It’s nice to see sports in unique ways like this.

SF-Sports-Feature 1st Place 50 Points
Photographer: Robert Franklin, South Bend Tribune
Image:sf_rtfs_03
Judges Comments:
It’s the strongest cleanest moment. The helmets and arms make the photo dynamic and move one’s eye through the frame.

SF-Sports-Feature 2nd Place 40 Points
Photographer: Robert Franklin, South Bend Tribune
Image:sf_rtfs_04
Judges Comments:
It’s a nice moment, but could be framed in a more interesting way. The layer of the other team celebrating in the background gives context and depth to the photo.

SF-Sports-Feature 3rd Place 30 Points
Photographer: Robert Franklin, South Bend Tribune

Judges Comments:
This is super unique. It could be stronger with a change in position on the part of the photographer. Nonetheless, it’s not your everyday sports feature photo, which is a good thing.
