Some categories like Feature, General News, and Multiple were very strong and we had a lot of conversations about. We would have liked to see more peak action moments for the sports action category.

Judges Comments:
Nice unique moment and good seeing. There were a lot of fair “kids with animals” photos in here and this was the most unique.

Feature 3rd Place 30 Points
Photographer: Joe Garza, Tribune-Star
Image:f_80-chicken
Judges Comments:
It’s weird and we love it. The image reads cleanly and the low vantage point is a good choice here to help build the connection between kid and chicken.

Judges Comments:
A great collection of fair images. We anted to see a bit more of a common thread beyond the fair, but the images are strong and each caused a reaction.

Multiple_Entry 3rd Place 30 Points
Photographer: Michael Caterina, South Bend Tribune
Image:m_63-twirl_01
Judges Comments:
Good robust coverage of an event with unique scenes that demonstrate a good eye. Good work not just sticking to twirlers and looking outside the event. A slightly tighter edit and more even toning would have pushed this entry higher.

Judges Comments:
The first and last images of this series are very nice. We wish we would’ve seen a more diverse set of images but good work capturing the feel.

We appreciate the tight crop to allow us to see his face and fill the frame. The face makes the picture.

Judges Comments:
Probably the best moment out of the entries, but a loose crop kills the impact a bit.

A unique image that we felt should be rewarded although we were split on how well executed the concept ended up working out.
