Winners

Feature 1st Place Cream of the Crop 60 Points
Photographer: Kaitlynn Sullivan, Dubois County Herald

Judges Comments:
This category was one of the harder ones to judge as there were many good images to pick from. This photo instantly stood out for us. We like the color and clean saturation. The boy on the far right adds to the moment. The caption with the names of everyone is a nice touch.

Feature 2nd Place 40 Points
Photographer: Marlena Sloss, The Herald

Judges Comments:
We like the spontaneous moment in an otherwise mundane setting. The quote added in to the caption is also a nice touch.

Feature 3rd Place 30 Points
Photographer: Jenna Watson, Indianapolis Star

Judges Comments:
This image is graphically appealing. The person in red in the middle is a nice extra touch- nice framing and use of panning.

Photographer: Kelly Lafferty, Kokomo Tribune

Judges Comments:
Nice facial expression, and the rain is a nice added layer. We think the background could be a little cleaner, but still a nice image.

Photographer: Jeremy Hogan, Freelance

Judges Comments:
We like the long detailed caption and the emotional depth of the image. We wish the photo was a little cleaner, with less depth of field or perhaps from a lower angle.

Judges Comments:
We like the information and context in a well executed clean photo.

Multiple_Entry 1st Place 50 Points
Photographer: Denny Simmons, Courier & Press

Judges Comments:
For this category, we think the series overall could be edited tighter. For this entry, you really get a feel for what Fall Fest is. This photographer did a good job of finding the moments within the event. We really liked the tug o war photo- the light and sense of place was nice.

Nice use of different angles and playing with reflections. We think a sense of place picture could elevate this series.

Nice expression, well framed, good moment, refreshing look in the sea of football photos and also a well done photo for soccer.

Sports_Action 3rd Place 30 Points

Judges Comments:
Great moment with the helmet coming off on the tackle. The photo could be cropped tighter on the top and the left side.

Good emotion and layering with the celebration happening in the background. We wish the image was cropped tighter to make the photo pop more.

Judges Comments:
Love the facial expressions and the moment. We think it could be cropped a little tighter. This picture would be a strong contender for first if not for the wider framing.
