Winners

Feature 1st Place 50 Points
Photographer: Samantha Owens, Evansville Courier & Press
Image:f_96-wheelbarrowrace
Judges Comments:
The image rose to the top as a nice found moment and featured a quality quote. Although we would have liked to see last names.

Feature 2nd Place 40 Points
Photographer: Kaitlynn Sullivan, Dubois County Herald
Image:f_132-baptism
Judges Comments:
There is an evocative quote in the caption that corresponds to importance of the moment. The ceremony is also being performed in an unusual way in that it features a lay person.

Feature 3rd Place 30 Points
Photographer: Marlena Sloss, The Herald
Image:f_100-cemetery
Judges Comments:
The image features a composition that gets the point across followed by a caption tying it all together.

Feature HM Place 10 Points

A nice moment that captures the joy of the win.

General_News 2nd Place 40 Points
Photographer: Jeremy Hogan, Freelance
Image:gn_88-funeral
Judges Comments:
A rarely seen style of funeral procession which takes on an extra layer of meaning when considering the manner of death. Although the last name of the deceased is spelt different ways in the caption.

General_News 3rd Place 30 Points
Photographer: Kelly Lafferty, Kokomo Tribune
Image:gn_57-adoption
Judges Comments:
A simple and quick read of a strong, emotive moment.

General_News HM Place 10 Points

The most interesting of submitted protest images. The apple adds an interesting quirk to an otherwise newsworthy image.

This was the clear winner among the judges. It’s a simple story of every day life done in a way that makes for a compelling narrative.

Multiple_Entry 2nd Place 40 Points
Photographer: Denny Simmons, Courier & Press
Image:m_78-adoption_001

The photographer had good access which made for a nice glimpse into the lives of this newly-formed family.

Multiple_Entry 3rd Place 30 Points
Photographer: Kaitlynn Sullivan, Dubois County Herald
Image:m_132-truckerdil_01
Judges Comments:
An uncommon look at a common job making for an interesting visual essay.

Multiple_Entry HM Place 10 Points
Photographer: Jeremy Hogan, Freelance
Image:m_88-unicornarrest_01
Judges Comments:
It’s not every day one sees a unicorn being arrested which made for an interesting photo selection. With that said, the photographer should consider a tighter edit and adding more background information.
