Two balloons landed in the field. Beazly and friend Bill Smith of Louisville, left, flew the balloons from Springfield, Ill., as part of a distance race called the Long Jump Challenge. They traveled 172 miles and averaged 80 miles per hour. Smith said that in the winter months the jet streams are at a lower altitude, making it easier for the balloons to go farther and faster. Both Beazly and Smith have participated in the Strassenfest hot air balloon race, which Wigand organizes. 1st Place GN-General_News Matt Detrich/Indianapolis Star Caption: Homeless campers do their best to stay warm as they huddle together around a contained fire roaring inside a barrel under the bridge at East Maryland and South Davidson Streets in Indianapolis on Monday, January 21, 2013.
