Renn was mortally wounded during an Eastside gun battle with a 25-year-old suspect while responding to a call of shots being fired in the area.  Renn was struck three times with shots fired by Major Davis Jr. from an assault rifle. Davis, who also was shot and is in critical condition, is charged with murder.
