Nice moment at what could have been a mundane event. The background helps give context to the event and the laugh is the icing on the cake.

Judges Comments:
This is clearly the winner with multiple moments and all around great coverage. Could use a tighter edit, but nice coverage.

Multiple_Entry 2nd Place 40 Points
Photographer: Matt Detrich/Indianapolis Star
Image:mb_mldi_01
Judges Comments:
There are certainly some beautiful graphic images in here that tell a story, but the photographer could have shown more human affects due to weather. A stronger human element would have mad this a stronger project. Also would tell photographer to stray away from the wide angle a little bit. The distortion really detracts from the engagement of the story.

Judges Comments:
There’s nothing in this piece that’s groundbreaking or amazing. Many photos are too loose or to wide. You could get rid of half of the shots and it would be a stronger selection of images.

This is a distant action shot, but love the way the cars create a leading line into the action.

SA-Sports-Action 3rd Place 30 Points
Photographer: DENNY SIMMONS

Judges Comments:
The cleanness of the jumper and the framing of the tree lines really helped push this over the edge from an HM to 3rd. the separation is perfect.

Really nice moment between teammates.

SF-Sports-Feature 3rd Place 30 Points
Photographer: AJ Mast, Independent Photojournalist
Image:sf_ajmi_001
Judges Comments:
This is a great moment, but I with that the shooter was back a few steps to help give context to the situation. In a group of photos this is strong, but on it’s own it gets lost to what the event is.

Nice moment and love that the photographer goes beyond the action on the track.
