Winners

Feature 1st Place 50 Points
Photographer: Michael Caterina, South Bend Tribune
Image:f_63-frozen
Judges Comments:
Nice isolated moment with a moodiness that made the judges feel the cold of the subject. The spot of red from the marker made the eye move toward the lone subject.

Feature 2nd Place 40 Points
Photographer: Samantha Owens, Evansville Courier & Press
Image:f_96-eveningowl
Judges Comments:
Beautiful light and sharp focus on the wings made this an eye catcher. There seems to be a connection with the shooter and its subject.

Feature 3rd Place 30 Points
Photographer: Jenna Watson, Indianapolis Star
Image:f_83-hunter
Judges Comments:
A fun moment that made the judges chuckle and say, awww!

General_News 1st Place 50 Points
Photographer: Jeremy Hogan, Freelance
Image:gn_88-bus
Judges Comments:
Another moody scene of isolation with a perfect exposure. The streetlights made it warm but the cold could be felt.

General_News 2nd Place 40 Points
Photographer: Jeremy Hogan, Freelance
Image:gn_88-snow
Judges Comments:
The leading lines of the trees and cars lead the eye right to the subjects even though they were in the shadows. The red cap made sure the viewer had to see the subjects.

Nicely caught moment with a hard-to-get exposure because of reflections in the window.

Judges Comments:
This entry was a hands down favorite of the judges. The entered images were stronger than the rest.

Multiple_Entry 2nd Place 40 Points

The story as a great follow but could have used a bit more intimacy

Sports_Action 1st Place 50 Points

The obviously pre-thought-out location made for a nice sense of placement with previous winner’s names framing the diver.

Sports_Action 2nd Place 40 Points

Judges Comments:
The clean background, nice light and good action made this stand out from other action entries

Sports_Action 3rd Place 30 Points

This was a hard moment to capture. The flow of the water made for a good graphic element.

Again, the photographer put themself in the right place to get the faces of the family. Perfect frame and moment. The light was a bit dark but only added to the mood

The light brings the eye right where the photographer wanted you to look. The hard to expose frame was well executed

Seeing the boots was out of the ordinary for a sporting event. It was nice catch by the shooter.
